What We Do!

 

Krav Maga is a self defence & fighting system based on real-life situations. It uses the body’s natural reactions to create its techniques. Because of this Krav is simple and quick to learn, and can be used in real-life situations straight away.

Hopefully most people won’t ever have to use what they learn in class on the street. We teach our students to stay away from problems and use Krav only as a last resort, when talking, running away and all other options have been exhausted or that the act of aggression towards them needs immediate action to prevent injury or harm.

Krav Maga being one of the first Mixed Martial Arts systems (MMA) when founder Imi Litchenfeld created it, he used multiple disciplines that he was already proficient in.

Krav uses techniques from many Martial Arts such as Kickboxing, Karate, Brazilian Jujitsu (BJJ), Judo and Boxing. Krav Maga takes these techniques and adapts them to work in real self defence situations.

We train hard at KME using pressure tests to simulate the stress of being attacked, once students have learnt a technique. This is so students can train to as near as real-life as possible but still in a safe and controlled environment.

Krav covers all self defence situations such as knives, sticks (bat), chokes and grabs to name just a few. We train all of these from all possible angles and positions. From standing, sitting in a chair, on the floor, from behind and sides as well. This is so students can deal with any situations no matter where an aggressor comes from.

While covering all of this, KME still covers the basics so students have a good grounding to counter-attack as with all Martial Arts and self defence systems. Using punches, uppercuts, hooks, elbows also incorporating kicks, roundhouse kicks, stop kicks and knees. Krav takes many of its strikes from Boxing, Muay Thai & Kickboxing, some of its ground techniques from Brazilian Jujitsu (BJJ) and other martial arts like Judo and Karate and adapts these to work in real situations.

Street fights aren’t like they are in the movies, they’re normally chaotic, aggressive and very unpredictable. Krav will help people from all walks of life stand a better chance to over come attacks. Its great for adults, kids and women’s self defence.

Students also spar once they have reached the appropriate competency so they can move, punch, counter-attack and protect themselves. Sparring is a great way to train and practice techniques. While we encourage students to spar, no student will ever be forced to do so until they feel they are ready.

Because of the training we do, you’ll get to learn how to protect yourself from attackers. You’ll get fit while you’re doing it and meet and gain new friends and have fun all at the same time.
